The role of the secretary is a very enjoyable position, central to the smooth running and development of the Volunteers. Your main focus will be on the recruitment and support of our volunteers. It is a very social role as you will become very involved with the charity and meet all your fellow volunteers. The most important requirement is to be friendly, approachable and welcoming to our volunteers. You need to have good communication skills and enjoy meeting and interacting with a wide range of people, both clients and your fellow volunteers. It is a role that requires quite a high level of organisational skills. Previous work with volunteers or managing people is desirable but is not necessary.
You should be confident around technology and be conversant with the Microsoft Office
programs or equivalent.
Please note, our office is on the first floor of the Community Centre and as you will need to go
there regularly, will need to be able to mount the stairs (we have two handrails on either side
of the staircase, which is unfortunately not suitable for the installation of a stair lift).
You need to have a DBS check and agree to our confidentiality and other policies.Training will be provided in the areas of safeguarding and our booking system (if you are not already familiar with these). Ideally, you will also be a driver and office helper on occasions, as this helps you to get to know our systems, our clients and other volunteers.
You are likely to spend between 2 and 10 hours per week undertaking this role, depending on
the level of activity. For example, if there are several new volunteers starting at the same time
you would be at the upper end of those hours per week. Probably a rough average over the
year is about 3 hours per week.
To find out more and have an informal chat, please email your phone number and reason for
your interest in the role, to our current Secretary Jane Forde, on
info@woodcotevolunteers.org.uk and she will call you back.
Thank you.
