Getting Woodcote Online
We are now running a new digital inclusion and support service within the village. This initiative is part of ‘Getting Oxfordshire Online’ and offers a regular series of (free) monthly sessions for local residents who have any queries that arise from using the internet (whether they already have a device or not). These one-to-one advice sessions are run by a team of friendly local volunteers and can last approximately 45 minutes per client. They are held twice a month at 2-4 pm on the first Saturday and at 10.00-12.00 noon on the third Thursday of each month in Woodcote Community Centre. To book your slot, please call 01491 877749 and leave a voicemail if necessary. Someone will phone you back to take your details. STOP PRESS – Volunteer Drivers needed!
Could you join our dedicated team of volunteer drivers? There are many people in Woodcote and the surrounding villages who, for various reasons, are unable to get to essential medical appointments or local social events. Social isolation is a very real problem, particularly amongst the elderly. Our clients are hugely appreciative of the service we provide, and our drivers not only enjoy the satisfaction of giving something back to their community but also appreciate the opportunity to chat to their passengers. However, to keep our service running we need as large a pool of volunteers as possible and so we are always looking to recruit new volunteer drivers. Could this be something for you? The role is highly flexible: volunteers can accept as many or as few drives as they wish, fitting them around their own lives as necessary. Mileage expenses are paid. For more information about Woodcote Volunteers and being a volunteer driver please click here or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Jane, by email at info@woodcotevolunteers.org.uk. Woodcote Volunteers
Woodcote Volunteers began life in 1983. It is one of many ‘Good Neighbour’ schemes running across Oxfordshire. Here in Woodcote, we focus on providing a transport service for residents of Woodcote and surrounding villages. We also collect and deliver prescriptions, provide help with applying for blue badges, host monthly tea parties and also run a service to help local residents to get access to on-line services.
- To this end, we provide volunteer drivers, tea party helpers, blue badge application support and digital advice sessions to help with problems accessing on-line services.
- Woodcote Volunteers’ mission is to help overcome the disadvantage local people experience because they do not have access to transport or are experiencing social or digital isolation.
- We aim to have happier and healthier residents in Woodcote and surrounding villages as a result of our service.
